Elmer Thomas Park: The City's Centerpiece Playground
Elmer Thomas Park, at 501 NW Ferris Avenue, is Lawton's largest city park at roughly 170 acres, and it anchors the local playground scene. Along with its walking trails, sports courts, and Lake Elmer Thomas, the park includes playground equipment near the lake and a splash pad at 3rd and Ferris Avenue, which makes it a popular all-day stop in warm weather. The park office can be reached at (580) 581-3400. For trails, fishing, and seasonal events on the same grounds, see our full Elmer Thomas Park and Lake Lawtonka guide.
Kid's Zone at Greer Park
The Kid's Zone at Greer Park, located around 541 to 573 NW 38th Street at the corner of 38th and Cache Road, is one of the most popular playground destinations on Lawton's west side. The play area is a dedicated kids' zone with modern play structures, and its location on the Cache Road corridor puts it within a few minutes of most west-side neighborhoods and easy access to Fort Sill. Greer Park is part of the city's park improvement program, which has upgraded playground equipment at a number of neighborhood parks across the city.
Neighborhood Parks with New Playground Equipment
Through its Park Improvements program, the City of Lawton has upgraded playground equipment at several neighborhood parks in recent years. These include Skyline East Park, Wayne Gilley Park, Prairie Park, Willow Creek Park, Greer Park, Gooch Acres, and Kathy Newcombe Park, which sits near Fort Sill Boulevard and Ferris Avenue. Other parks commonly used for playground time around town include Gray Warr Park, Rader Park, Ambrosia Springs Park, and Apple Valley Park. Because these are spread across the city, most Lawton neighborhoods are within a short drive of at least one playground. The City of Lawton maintains a facility directory at lawtonok.gov where you can confirm each park's address and amenities.
Playgrounds at Fort Sill
For military families, Fort Sill also has playground areas on post, including spots like CO-OP Park, Patriot Estates, and the Greble and Baragona neighborhoods, plus the Old Cavalry Post area. These on-post playgrounds are accessible to those with base access and are typically maintained by the installation. For more on on-post recreation and family programs, see our Fort Sill family support and MWR guide.
