Holiday in the Park at Elmer Thomas Park, the Christmas parade, festive lights, and family events across Lawton, Fort Sill, and Medicine Park in 2026. Lawton's holiday season starts in late November, when Holiday in the Park fills Elmer Thomas Park with light displays, Oklahoma's longest walking tunnel, bumper cars, train rides, and the opening-night holiday parade, and the festivities run through New Year's Eve. Fort Sill and Medicine Park add their own traditions, so here is the 2026 calendar at a glance.
What Is Holiday in the Park in Lawton?
Holiday in the Park is Lawton's signature holiday event, organized by the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce Foundation with support from the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce, and held at Elmer Thomas Park on NW Ferris Avenue. The 2026 season runs November 21 through December 31, 2026, with the theme "Christmas Through the Decades." Guests can drive through the light displays or explore on foot—including Oklahoma's longest walking tunnel—and warm up at the hospitality tent supported by Alltech Heating and Cooling. This year there is no ice skating rink, with bumper cars available instead. The Holiday House, bumper cars, and train rides operate 6:00–10:00 p.m. every Friday and Saturday from November 21 through December 19, plus December 20–23, and the Holiday House serves hot dogs, nachos, hot chocolate, soda, and snacks. A Living Nativity takes place December 18, 19, and 20, while food truck nights, horse-drawn carriage ride nights, and parking details will be announced as opening night approaches. Our guide to Elmer Thomas Park and Lake Lawtonka covers the park's layout and walking routes year-round.
When Is the Lawton Holiday Parade?
Opening night on Saturday, November 21, 2026, brings the free Holiday in the Park Parade, which steps off at 6:00 p.m., traveling down 2nd Street and turning onto Ferris Avenue into Elmer Thomas Park. The parade is expected to last approximately 90 minutes and draws floats, marching bands, and community groups from across Comanche County (parade registration is available through the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce website, and directions around parade road closures will be announced ahead of opening night). Note that there will not be a Frost Your Fanny 5K run in 2026. Following the last parade float—with a target time of approximately 8:00 p.m.—the opening-night celebration continues with the large Christmas tree lighting, music, and a five-minute fireworks grand finale.
What Other Holiday Events Are in Lawton?
Beyond the park, Lawton's holiday calendar keeps adding dates each year. The City of Lawton lit its Christmas tree at City Hall for the first time in December 2025, and First Baptist Church Lawton presents its Living Christmas Tree, a tall light-wrapped structure with a full choir, most years in mid-December. Many churches, schools, and community groups across the area host tree lightings, choir concerts, and holiday markets. For the freshest list of what is happening this week, our weekly events page is updated with current happenings, and the year-round guide to annual events tracks the date anchors for the whole season.
What Holiday Events Happen at Fort Sill?
Fort Sill runs its own holiday slate for military families. Recurring highlights include Trees for Troops, which hands out free Christmas trees to active-duty families, the Reindeer 5K and 10K fun run, holiday concerts by the 77th Army Band, and Pics with Santa at the USO. Most events are open to DOD ID card holders and their families, and details land on the Fort Sill MWR calendar each December.
What Christmas Events Are in Medicine Park?
About 20 minutes northwest of Lawton, Medicine Park closes out the season with its Christmas Parade and Carnival, usually on a Saturday in late December. The day starts around 11 a.m. with games and contests, the parade steps off around 2 p.m. on East Lake Drive, and carnival rides, Santa's arrival, and hot chocolate follow. The cobblestone streets and creekside storefronts look especially festive under holiday lights, and our Medicine Park community guide has more on the town and how to get there.
