This year's Festival of the Wichitas has wrapped up, and it was another great fall day in Cache. The festival is an annual event, so if you missed it, check back for next year's dates. It's a fall family day in Cache, and it's a fundraiser for a place that changed my life.
What Happens at the Festival of the Wichitas?
Here's the quick version of the day. The Festival of the Wichitas is an annual fall family day held at the Sonrise campus at 19792 NW Cache Rd in Cache, Oklahoma, right at the base of the Wichita Mountains. This year's festival ran from noon to 6 PM with free admission. Throughout the day the festival features carnival rides, a Ferris wheel, bounce houses, hayrides, a petting zoo, a pumpkin patch, close to a hundred craft vendors, food trucks, and live music all afternoon, plus a graduation celebration for Sonrise graduates, which is a special part of the afternoon.

What Is the Festival of the Wichitas Fundraising For?
But the festival is more than rides and vendors. It's a fundraiser for Sonrise Adult & Teen Challenge, the long-term men's program on that campus. Sonrise is a faith-based recovery program for men who have things going on in their lives that keep them from moving forward, addiction included. It's a 13-month program, and the festival directly supports the work that happens there.
Why This Festival Is Personal for Me
And that part is personal for me. I spent 17 months at Sonrise, and it freed me from a 14-year meth addiction. I don't share that casually. I've watched men who were felons go on to open successful businesses. I've seen mothers get their sons back, wives get their husbands back, and kids get their fathers back. That's what this program does, and it's why I'm grateful for it every single day.
So if you're looking for something to do with the family next fall, keep an eye out for the Festival of the Wichitas and check back for next year's dates. Come out to Cache, enjoy the mountains, the rides, and the food. And know that when you do, you're helping men take their lives back.
